About

Designer working
across print, digital
and interaction.

I'm a Moray-based designer creating websites, visual identities, print material and interactive digital experiences. My work focuses on clear structure, strong typography and practical design that works in the places people actually use it.

Hello, I'm Dan.

Moray-based designer working across websites, visual identities, interactive media, print, motion and digital experiences. My work sits between graphic design and interaction, with a focus on clear layouts, strong typography, usable systems and considered visual direction.

I work with artists, small businesses, local groups, venues, promoters, independent brands and cultural organisations. I'm interested in projects where design has a real job to do: making information clearer, improving how something is experienced, translating an identity into digital space, or creating something memorable without making it harder to use.

I care about craft, context and function. I like learning the rules properly so I know when they are worth breaking.

  • Clarity before decoration

A poster needs to be visible from across the street. A website needs to work on a phone. A brand needs to hold together across print, social media and digital platforms.

  • Accessible by default

Readable type, clear contrast, logical structure and usable interactions improve the work for everyone. Accessibility is part of the design process, not an afterthought.

  • Research-led decisions

I use research to understand the audience, context, competition and constraints of a project. The aim is to make informed design decisions rather than follow trends for the sake of it.

  1. Research

Understanding the context, audience, client goals, platform and practical constraints.

  2. Define

Clarifying what the work needs to achieve, what should be prioritised, and what constraints need to guide the project.

  3. Experiment

Exploring possible directions through sketches, references, moodboards, layout tests and early prototypes.

  4. Develop

Narrowing the strongest ideas into a clearer direction and developing the visual or interactive system.

  5. Build

Turning the chosen direction into a working outcome, whether that is a website, identity, print piece, prototype or digital experience.

  6. Test

Checking the work against its purpose: readability, usability, accessibility, memorability and suitability for the setting.

  7. Finalise

Using feedback and testing to improve the final result before launch, print, publication or handover.

Practical experience, design focus

I recently graduated from Interactive Media BSc at UHI Moray and now work independently as a designer. Before moving into design full time, I worked in music venues and ran events in Edinburgh, where I started making posters and promotional material myself.

That experience gave me a practical understanding of how design works in public-facing spaces: how it catches attention, communicates quickly, supports a brand, and helps promote real events to real audiences.
