Interactive Virtual Tour

A web-based 360° experience that allows users to explore the collection remotely through an interactive virtual tour. The project focuses on designing and implementing an accessible, low-barrier system that supports long-term digital preservation and sustainable content management.

The problem

The House of Automata needed a way for remote visitors to experience the collection without relying on a flat gallery page.

A low-barrier virtual exhibition system

The project was developed as a web-based 360° experience that combines spatial navigation with a simple content-management workflow. Rather than building a complex bespoke platform, the system uses accessible tools that are easier to maintain, update and transfer over time.

Content and preservation workflow

Alongside the public-facing tour, I designed a supporting system for storing assets, preservation details and related documentation. Google Forms and Google Drive were used to create a lightweight workflow for adding new material, keeping source files organised and separating content storage from the presentation layer.

Interface direction

The interface was kept deliberately restrained so the collection remained the focus. The page acts as a clear entry point into the 360° tour, with supporting project information kept secondary to the viewing experience.

A modular, maintainable result

The final system demonstrates how an interactive virtual exhibition can be created using widely available tools while still considering long-term access, asset management and preservation. It also highlights the limitations of relying on third-party platforms, making clear documentation and organised storage essential parts of the project.
