Replacing an unstable existing site

The existing House of Automata website had become difficult to maintain, with outdated plugins, broken functionality and performance issues limiting how effectively the museum could present its collection and manage online sales.

The site needed a clearer structure for visitor information, collection content, publications, sales and future updates, without making day-to-day content management more difficult.

Rebuilt rather than patched

Rather than applying short-term fixes to an increasingly fragile setup, the site was rebuilt on a cleaner WordPress foundation. The structure was simplified, unnecessary clutter was removed, and the content was reorganised to make the site easier to navigate, update and extend.

Supporting publications and antique automata sales

WooCommerce was integrated to support the sale of publications and antique automata through a more scalable and maintainable system. The aim was to create a site that could function both as a public-facing museum platform and as a practical sales tool.

A clearer and more maintainable platform

The rebuild focused on improving usability, reducing technical debt and creating a more reliable editing experience. Attention was also given to perceived loading behaviour, avoiding broken or partially loaded visual states so the site felt more stable and deliberate in use.
